Information you will need …

The Census is a snapshot of the situation on 31st January each year. 

Answers that can be found on Compass are marked with: (c)  It follows that if Compass appears out of date, now would be a good time to address this.

Only the names and contact details of yourself filling in the form need to be recorded, however you need to have an understanding of various people’s details in order to complete the census accurately. 

Group Return:

Are there any leaders with more than one role on Compass? Each adult should only be recorded once with their main role, but they should also be entered for statistical purposes everywhere else they help.  You will need to agree this with the Section Leader and/or line manager.   

Which Leaders and Section Assistants are on the Exec? (c) 

Who is your Chair, Secretary and Treasurer?  (c)  (Please note it is impossible to hold more than one of these roles at the same time.)   Are they female/male?  What is their declared ethnicity?  (c)

Who else is on the Exec? Are they female/male?  What is their declared ethnicity?  (c)

How many people on your Exec are aged 18 to 24?

Do any adults anywhere in your Group have any declared disabilities?  (c)

Does the Group collect gift aid from young members?

Is your Group sponsored?  If so, by whom?

Is your Group special? E.g. meeting in a SEN school

Do you have partnership agreements with any Explorer Units?

Do the Sections have waiting lists?  How many male/females are on it?

Beavers/Cubs/Scout Leader’s Return:

You will need to be aware of whether any of your Leaders or Assistants is recorded on another Return, your DC can help you find this out.

How many Leaders and Assistants do you have?   Are they male/female?  What ethnicities are they?  

How many Leaders and Assistants are aged 18 to 24?

What is the postcode for your venue? (c)

From your Group’s point of view, is your venue freehold, leasehold, rented, donated or some other arrangement? (c)

What day of the week does your Section meet? (c)

How do you keep your Section’s records?  E.g. OSM.

How many young members do you have?   Are they male/female?  What ages are they?  What ethnicities are they?  What disabilities do they have?

How many top awards have your young members earned in the past 12 months? 

Do you have any Explorer Young Leaders?  Are they male/female?  What ethnicities are they?  You may need to update the Young Leader Unit’s leader, as that return requires their ages and disabilities.

Do you have any children from other organisations doing their DofE Service with you?  Are they male/female?  What ethnicities are they?

Explorer Leader’s Return:
