Action, Adventure & Discovery: Our London Challenge Weekend
We would love for all Explorers and eligible Scouts (i.e. due to move to Explorers in the next year) to join us for our fun packed 2026 Phoenix Camp !!
An amazing, action-packed programme featuring activities that most Scouts and Explorers will not have experienced before. – Subject to Change
- The Big London Challenge – a Saturday challenge into London, solving clues by visiting famous London landmarks
- An evening visit to Gravity Max, Stratford, where we can take part in activities such as go-karting, golf, Liser Tag, darts etc (we expect to offer 2 different activities and possibly 3) https://gravity-global.com/max/stratford-city
- Evening meal in London provided (Domino’s Pizza or similar)
- A traditional campfire to round off the day
- A visit to the Secret Nuclear Bunker at Kelvedon Hatch for a truly unique experience
When: The event will take place on Friday 6th March 2026 and will run through to Sunday 8th March.
Location: Thriftwood Scout Activity Centre, Orchard Ave, Brentwood, Essex, CM13 2DP
Departure:
We will be organising for several mini busses to take the Scouts/Explorers to the campsite. These will all leave from Kesgrave Scout Hall .
Drop off Address:- 1st Kesgrave Scout Group, Twelve Acre Approach, Kesgrave, Ipswich, IP5 1JF
Time: 7pm sharp. Please arrive 15 mins early to register and load your kit onto the mini busses.
You will need to have eaten your evening meal before arriving at drop off in Kesgrave.

Kit List
The camp kit list will be sent out in Feb so you know what to bring.
Be aware that it may be chilly in the day and evening, especially overnight, so bring clothes that can be layered. Please bring a suitable sleeping bag (3 season +) and/or blankets.

Please ensure contact, health, dietary and medical information is up to date on your record.
Payments
Payment for the camp should be made to your group via their usual methods (Cash, Cheque, BACs, OSM, etc).
The total fee for camp is:
- Scout, Explorer, Young Leader – £85
- Leader/Adult Helper – £25
If there are any payment issues, please get in touch with your section/unit leader so we can help.
We will be looking to take payments following a payment plan as follows
31st Jan – £35 non refundable deposit
28th Feb – £50 balance
Camping Arrangements
All Groups/Units will camp together, so Scouts and Explorers will sleep in close proximity. The provision of tents will vary from Group to Group, so your leaders will give instructions about this.
Catering:
Catering will be centrally organised

We will do our best to cater to dietary requirements that we have been made aware of, such as nut-free, vegetarian, and gluten-free, etc. If your young person has any specific requirements, then it would be beneficial to know prior to camp.
